People gain weight everyday. And when the gain it gets too much, people around them start pointing it out to them. After pleasantries, you're met with"Hey Bimpe, you're adding o", "Chike, this your belle don dey comot". Worry and paranoia sets in. They start seeking for ways to rid of the weight they have put on. In that paranoid state, they get to their electronic devices and start giving search engines queries like;

"How to lose weight in bla bla bla days",
"How to burn belly fat in 10 days"
"Things to burn fat"
"Burn fat quickly"
"gym exercises to burn fat"

Trust me, I've been at this stage in my life. Being paranoid and needlessly checking the internet never really helped. I lacked basic knowledge about what weight loss was all about when I wanted to lose weight. You don't have to go through that. First thing you need to do is calm down. Then seek answers the right way because in weight loss and maintain weight loss, there are no shortcuts.
These are the first set of questions anyone planning to lose weight should ask.

WHAT IS WEIGHT LOSS?
Weight loss is a reduction or decrease in body size caused by exercise, diet, or illness in some circumstances. Simple.

WHY DO WE GAIN WEIGHT (CAUSES OF WEIGHT GAIN?
We gain weight basically because we consume more calories than we expel. In lay man terms, we eat more than we burn it. food is good, sweet and filling but it has to be in moderation. Too much of everything is a recipe for disaster. For example, if your body's daily calorie need is 2000 and you consume 4000 calories without exercising to burn those calories, it's only a matter of weeks before you start gaining weight. There are other causes of weight gain like;
  • Not sleeping well at night.
  • High stress levels - leads to stress eating.
  • Medical conditions (mostly hypothyrodism) & certain medications
  • Menopause in women.
  • Pregnancy.
WHAT IS BELLY FAT?
Belly fat is excess abdominal fat around your stomach are (abdomen). It is also known as visceral fat. It is one of the hardest fat to reduce. It is caused generally by weight gain.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT AND BELLY FAT?
These two are glued for life(Belly fat and weight) You can't lose just belly fat without losing weight in general. There is no spot reduction in weight loss. You can't decide to lose belly, arm, leg fats without reducing in weight in total. It just does not work that way.
There are two basic ways to lose weight and belly fat and they mostly go hand in hand.
  • Diet - This involves specifically selecting what to eat, when to eat and how to eat food for effective weight loss. Examples are the Ketogenic diet, low-carb diet, portion control, intermittent fasting, warrior diet e.t.c

  • Exercise - Increase physical activity by walking, running, jogging, swimming, weight lifting, yoga, tabata, burpees, jumping jacks, skipping and a whole lot of exercises to choose from.

Doing the aforementioned (dieting and exercising) judiciously will result in overall calorie reduction and weight loss would be achieved. Then paranoia ends. 😁
